New York Folklore presents a Critical Folklife Forum that explores timely issues and strategies to further our practice as folklorists, ethnographers, and cultural heritage specialists. Each Forum highlights a topic or issue relevant to our worked presented by invited speakers. The forum provides ample opportunity for discussion.

Today's Forum will feature Ed Millar of the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University, Todd DeGarmo, Founding Director of the Folklife Center at Crandall Public Library, Glens Falls, and Sarah Bachinger, a folk artist (pysanky and embroidery) who is also a fine artist (photography and painting). The topic of discussion of fine art vs. folk art perspectives and the ways in which those distinctions distort and inform the realities of our work.
