Before moving from his Cambridge, Washington County, New York home to Virginia. artist/illustrator Steven Alcorn donated sets of his linocuts used to illustrate two awarding-winning books edited by Milton Meltzer, Lincoln In His Own Words (1993) and Frederick Douglass In His Own Words (1995).  For the first time, the Folklife Center has matted and framed a selection of these prints for display in the Folklife Gallery.

Children in Kindergarten and up are invited to come practice reading skills with Beatrix, a certified therapy dog.  Kids will choose a book and read to the dog one-on-one during a 15 minute time slot.  Beatrix is a great listener!  Please register for each session with the name of your child.  

Stories, songs, puppets, and movement activities for children ages 3-5 and their caregiver.  Siblings welcome.  No sign up required. Monday story times are held indoors in the Children's Activity Room.

This memoir writing group is open to authors of all experience levels. Whether you are working on a personal memoir for publication or would simply like to start recording your memories, members can expect to receive peer guidance and feedback in a supportive and welcoming environment. Several writing topics are recommended each month, or people can write about a topic of their own choosing. At each get-together, there is the option to share your writing and receive thoughtful feedback. This group will meet on the last Monday of every month. Registration is required.
