The Great North American Solar Eclipse of 2024: The Science and the History
Monday, April 01, 2024
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
On April 8th, 2024, Glens Falls and the surrounding area will experience a solar eclipse with 98.27% solar coverage. Solar eclipses have fascinated humans for thousands of years. Myths and rituals were created to explain the Sun's disappearance and bring it back again. Its a striking event that people not only see, but experience. Dr. Mindy Townsend, astronomer from the Dudley Observatory at Siena college, will return for a discussion of the history, science, and safe viewing of these events. Her presentation will provide an introduction to the different types of eclipses, how they work, and ways to view them. Participants will receive a free pair of eclipse viewing glasses. Registration for this event is recommended.
