Afternoon Film: The Cat Rescuers

2:30 PM - 4:30 PM
Crandall Public Library
Christine L. McDonald Community Room

Directed by Rob Fruchtman and Steve Lawrence

More than half a million feral cats prowl the streets of New York City, struggling to survive each day. With no official policies in place to aid the abandoned animals or curb their growing population, animal welfare activists enter the breach. The Cat Rescuers follows four dedicated, street-smart volunteers working tirelessly in Brooklyn to help save as many felines in need as possible, no matter the personal sacrifices they must make. - Letterboxd.com

“While it movingly portrays the unique individuals committed to helping these cats, it doesn't quite tackle the full complexity of this subject. Still, no animal lover should be surprised to find themselves holding back tears while watching it.” - Bilge Ebiri, New York Times, 7/5/19

*Shown in partnership with North Shore Animal League’s Adirondack Region Cat Adoption Center*

Registration has closed. Five (5) required sessions- March 27, April 3, April 10, April 17, April 24, May 1 (make up session) 2024.

Do Tell, a free workshop series led by Margaret French, is designed to teach participants the art of storytelling, begun in 2014 by the Folklife Center in collaboration with storyteller/educators Margaret French and Betty Cassidy.

Sessions will include instruction and demonstrations of storytelling techniques, handouts, and small group work, with a focus on helping participants find and shape stories in a supportive, non-threatening environment. Margaret French is regular storyteller at Caffe Lena and Woodlawn Commons in Saratoga. She’s told stories at Word Plays, Proctors, Riverway storytelling festival, and Tellebration. She’s a member of the StoryCircle of the Capital District, LANES, and the National Storytelling Network.
